Week 5 marked the point where contenders began to separate from the pack. StFX and Saint Mary's showed no signs of slowing down in their battle for first place, and UNB has finally started to look like the team many expected coming into the season. October is here, and teams are starting to show their true colours.
StFX 17, Mount Allison 2
Another dominant showing from the #5 ranked X-Men, who continue to set the standard across the MUFLL. Cameron Waite and Daniel Creurer led the way with four goals each as StFX’s offense fired on all cylinders from start to finish. The X-Men look increasingly poised to lock up a top seed heading into October.
Saint Mary’s 12, Dalhousie 8
#6 Saint Mary’s took round one of the Battle of Halifax and handed #7 Dalhousie their third straight loss. The Huskies’ attacking trio of MacDonald, Morrisey, and Cox controlled the tempo, finding holes in the Dal defense and maintaining pressure throughout. Dalhousie made a late push in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit. With the win, SMU tightens its grip on first place and continues to prove they can go toe-to-toe with any school when firing on all cylinders.
UNB 15, Mount Allison 5
After a slow start to the season, UNB seems to be finding their form at the right time. Former Emmanuel University (NCAA DII) transfer Michael Gallop erupted for seven goals, moving into first place in the MUFLL scoring race with 24 on the season. Veteran Austin Hirschfeld added four goals and three assists, giving UNB one of their most complete offensive outings of the year. With momentum building, the Reds are looking to finish strong and climb the standings down the stretch.
The balance of power in the MUFLL continues to evolve. StFX and Saint Mary’s have established themselves as the frontrunners, while UNB’s late-season surge has tightened the race behind them. Dalhousie will look to regroup after a tough stretch, and both Mount Allison and UPEI will hope to reset and find their footing after the Thanksgiving break. With playoffs on the horizon, every team still has something to play for.
