Week 2 of MUFLL action saw major movement in the standings, with StFX surging into first place after a dominant weekend, while Dalhousie climbed into second on the strength of back-to-back wins.
Dalhousie 11, UPEI 3
The 13-time reigning champions looked sharp in their season debut, rolling past UPEI on Saturday. Nate Santarpia led the way with 4 goals, while TJ Cornell-Nixon stood tall in net to backstop Dal to their first win of the season.
StFX 10, Saint Mary’s 5
In a battle of early contenders, the X-Men handed SMU their first loss of the season. Cameron Waite and Jett Taylor powered the StFX offence with a combined 6 points.
Saint Mary’s 9, UNB 7
The Huskies bounced back in dramatic fashion on Saturday evening, edging UNB in a tight back-and-forth game. Owen Cox carried the offence in the critical win, scoring 5 goals and adding an assist. UNB’s Michael Gallop found the back of the net 3 times and now leads the league in the scoring race with 11.
Dalhousie 12, Mount Allison 4
Dal completed their weekend sweep on Sunday in Sackville with another convincing win, pushing the team to 2nd place. Joe Webster netted a hat trick for the Mounties, but it wasn’t enough to slow down the Tigers. Cornell-Nixon secured his second win of the weekend, finishing with a 3.50 GAA across both games.
StFX 16, UPEI 4
The X-Men capped off their perfect weekend in dominant fashion, cruising past UPEI to take over first place in the league standings. Taylor added 4 more goals and an assist on the season, sophomore goalie Trey Parker not only earned the win but also scored a rare goalie goal, and the StFX defence held UPEI’s all-time top scorer Connor McInnis off the scoresheet.
The season heats up as teams head into Week 3, with contenders looking to solidify their spots at the top and others eager to bounce back in the chase for the MUFLL title.
