The MUFLL kicked off its 20th season with an exciting opening weekend that featured high-powered offenses, tight battles, and a historic win. After the dust settled, Saint Mary’s sits alone at the top of the standings, while Mount Allison ended the longest losing streak in league history.
StFX 16, UNB 13
The X-Men (1-0) opened their season with a gritty win over UNB in one of the weekend’s closest games. StFX’s balanced attack proved too much to handle, with nine different players finding the back of the net in the 16-13 victory.
Mount Allison 8, UPEI 6
The Mounties (1-1) made history on Sunday, snapping a 56-game losing streak with their first win since 2018. Veteran attackman Joe Webster led the charge with six goals and an assist across the weekend, while fellow veteran Aidan Hazen chipped in five goals. The emotional victory marks a turning point for a Mount Allison program that has been building toward this moment for years.
UNB 21, UPEI 4
The Reds (1-1) bounced back in emphatic fashion with a dominant 21-4 win over UPEI. Michael Gallop stood out across both games, tallying eight goals and three assists for 11 points on the weekend. Zach Watson added eight goals and an assist, giving UNB a dynamic one-two punch on offense. Despite dropping both contests, the Panthers found a bright spot in Connor MacInnis, who scored five of UPEI’s goals in Week 1.
SMU 23, Mount Allison 11
The Huskies (1-0) wasted no time establishing themselves as early contenders, exploding for 23 goals in a decisive win over Mount Allison. Will Mix and Jacob Goobie each scored six times to power SMU to first place after Week 1.
