Bio on Rick Phillips

Rick has coached lacrosse at every level (Paperweight to Jr. A) in both box and field lacrosse over his 20+ year coaching career. He has led numerous teams to provincial championships in both disciplines. He coached Team Ontario U-19 field teams in 2007 and 2009, leading the team to national championship titles both times. In 2007, Rick led his team to a win at the Brogden Cup, the North American field championships held in Baltimore, Maryland.

Over the years, Rick has coached teams in international play in the United States, England and the Czech Republic. In the Czech Republic, he even ran player clinics for the youth from the community.

In addition to his new role as Coaching Sector Chair for the CLA, Rick is also currently the VP of Coaching for the Ontario Lacrosse Association.  He is responsible for organizing and facilitating coaching certification clinics in box and field lacrosse for Ontario. However, where he has made the most difference has been the work he has put in to help out the coaching programs in up and coming provinces. Rick has run coaching clinics for coaches in Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland that have helped to bring much needed experience and confidence to the coaches in these provinces.

Rick is a Certified Master Learning Facilitator and Master Evaluator for both box and field lacrosse. Recently, he co-facilitated a training session for new MLFs and MEs. Over the last few years, he has also been involved in the updating of the CLA coaching manuals for both box and field lacrosse.
