Alumni Spotlight - Jordan Coyle

2016-09-06

Our weekly Alumni Spotlight checks in this week with former Husky, and current assistant coach, Jordan Coyle.

Jordan Coyle

Saint Mary’s Class of 2013 (Bachelor of Commerce, Marketing)

The Marketing major grew up spending many summers attending Saint Mary’s hockey camps, and was naturally drawn to the school ever since. A late bloomer, Jordan Coyle became an instrumental part of Saint Mary’s only MUFLL championship in 2010. Since then, the account manager for Fastenal has returned to SMU as an assistant coach, and has become an invaluable resource for Lacrosse Nova Scotia.

Tyler James: What Lacrosse, if any, did you play prior to MUFLL?

Coyle: I grew up playing box lacrosse for the Dartmouth Bandits, but I hadn’t played field prior to attending Saint Mary’s.

Tyler James: How many seasons did you play in the MUFLL?

Coyle: I played three seasons for the Huskies, from 2010-2012.

Tyler James:  How did playing a University sport affect your undergrad/postgrad experience?

Coyle: Playing lacrosse for SMU made my under grad experience absolutely unreal. I’ll never be able to repay Ryan Fougere for convincing me to come out for the team in 2010. We had great group of guys who were super close and did everything together. We had a lot of fun over the years and I met some of my best friends playing on the team.

Tyler James: What was your favourite memory/experience playing in the MUFLL?

Coyle: I have so many great memories from my time with SMU, all the games and “roadies”, and our team functions were always a lot of fun. Playing with my brother in 2012 was also pretty special. However winning the ship in 2010 was without question the biggest highlight of my time on the team.

Tyler James: Can you tell us a bit about your involvement with Lacrosse after completing your MUFLL career?

Coyle: I am still involved in lacrosse as a coach and player. I play for the Halifax Fighting Orangutans in the Nova Scotia Senior Lacrosse League and recently played at the Ales Hebresky tournament in Prague for the Nova Scotia Privateers, which was an unreal experience. I’ve coached several provincial box teams over the last few years and currently coach the Southwest Bantam Select Hurricanes.
